Games I've Played & Weapons

I played MH3U first and then started making my way back through the library of game options with the help of my boyfriend at the time who introduced me to the game and also had a giant library of options.

The list is in the chronological game release order, not in the order I played them. (I don't know what order I played them, and some I played much longer than others! I wish I had that data, but alas, I did not keep any data back then.)

Favorite Monsters

The first monster I ever fell in love with was Lagiacrus. I didn't even know you could fall in love with monsters before then (except the classic universal monster type of monster). From 3U, I also loved Brachydios, Deviljho, Gobul, Nibelsnarf, Azure Rathalos, Silver Rathalos, Zinogre, and Ceadeus.

I brought that energy into 4U and fell in love with several additional monsters: Basarios, Gore Magala, Gravios, Kecha Wacha, Khezu, Najarala, Seltas Queen, Shagaru Magala, and Teostra.

By the time MHGU came out I had played multiple older games and started growing a real appreciation for the habitats, lore, behaviors, and habits of the monsters. I found love with Arzuros, Duramboros, Gypceros, Nargacuga, Seregios, Tetsucabra, Tigrex, Volvidon, Zamtrios, and Kirin.

MHR was my first almost total solo game, I had some friends playing but we were on different schedules so we didn't get to hunt that often. Rise brought such good energy back into my life, and I enjoyed systematically murdering the following monsters (in addition to those listed above): Remobra, Anjanath, Mizutsune, Pukei-Pukei, and Tobi-Kadachi.

Arts & Things

As with all of my great obsessions, at some point during the 2012-2016 time frame I made a lot of Monster Hunter crafts. I used to sell stuff online too (and some day might again).

For a while I was buying those blank small wooden craft boxes from Michael's (a craft store chain) and painting them like the item boxes. Anyone could do that, so I hand-carved the MH3U and MH4U guild stamps and provided the option to purchase a box with one of those, or neither. I also made a few Monster Hunter minizines that I'd put in the orders with the boxes.

Out of my Monster Hunter obsession came Hunting & Gathering, a Monster Hunter papercut art zine. I managed to beat my hand tremor and hold my breath long enough to create not one, but two zines full of these lil papercut images.

The text says: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3DS was the game that introduced me to the Monster Hunter franchise. I had never played a game like this before and I loved how everyone could have unique goals and styles and then come together to create a hunting party that might make even a Deviljho quiver... I was really spoiled with my first ever hunting party! I lost them in a breakup and have been a primarily solo hunter ever since. I've played almost every game in the franchies at least once, except for a few of the mobile games and some Japanese-only versions.
